Recipe: sesame pancake (烧饼)

  1. Make dough. Mix: 1 cup flour + 1/2 cup water + 1 TBSP oil. Cover, set aside. 
  2. Make filling.
    1. 200g Chinese radish (萝卜), shred, add 1 tsp salt, set aside to strip water.
    2. Fry 4 strips of bacon till golden brown, set aside to cool down.
    3. Chop 1 green onion, mix with 100g ground meat (beef, pork, or turkey).
    4. Chop bacon, add bacon bits to meat mix.
    5. Squeeze the water out of radish, mix with meat.
  3. Make spread. Fry 3 TBSP flour till golden. Add 3 TBSP oil to make paste.
  4. Use the rolling pin to make the dough to a rectangular 15cm X 25cm sheet.  Spread the paste. Roll the sheet up.
  5. Cut to 6 parts. 
  6. (Claire can do this.) For each part, use the rolling pin to flatten it a bit. 
  7. Add filling, squeeze to close it, shape to a ball. 
  8. (Claire can do this.) Flatten to a pancake shape. 
  9. (Claire can do this.) Use a brush to brush water on the surface of the pancake. Sprinkle sesame seeds. Use the rolling pin to push the sesame seeds in.
  10. Bake at 320F, 35 minutes.
Can be reheated in toaster oven.
